1. Wales has a strong and distinctive link with music. Singing is a significant part of Welsh national identity, and the country is traditionally referred to as "the land of song". This is a modern stereotype based on 19th century conceptions of Nonconformist choral music and 20th century male voice choirs, Eisteddfodau and arena singing, such as sporting events, but Wales has a history of music.

2. About the Ottawa Harmony Singers. We are a medium-sized choir, where every voice counts. We take pride in our singing, but most of all we have fun doing it. Our director, Pat Brush, is a fabulous voice teacher and under her direction, each of us has gained confidence and improved our singing.

3. This thesis concerns Wales as the ‘land of song’. In particular, it looks at choral singing in Wales which has long been considered a male tradition. From definitions of Welsh musical traditions featured in encyclopaedias to the continued use of male voice choirs at cultural events (such as rugby matches), men are continually promoted as the only bearers of the Welsh choral tradition.

4. I feel both humbled and honoured to have been approached to give my name to the International Choral Festival Wales Trophy. Over ninety nine percent of my compositional output has involved singers and singing and the sound of the human voice has been an inspiration to me over many years, whether by the conventional use of the voice as a vehicle for expressing a narrative or by using it purely.

5. Aug 20,  · Importantly for Welsh composition, the thirst for 'new' choral music gave the impetus for a prolific outpouring of choral works from such as Joseph Parry, David Evans and David Jenkins.

6. Congratulations to Myfanwy Davies of Ottawa, extremely worthy recipient of this year’s Gold Award, presented by The Ontario Welsh Festival. There can hardly be anyone in the North American Welsh community who doesn’t know Myfanwy and isn’t aware of all .

8. A few songs are in English but most are in Welsh, with complete lyrics and translations included in the booklet, as well as interesting tidbits of background information on most songs. This CD is a good choice whether your primary Welsh interest is music, language or general culture/5(16).
